PREPARING FOR THE TREK
Martin has been performing in Canada with an orchestra the whole of the Look of Love album.
The four shows were fantastic but Martin got stuck there on Friday night when he should have been flying home to join the Trek.
Fortunately by flying from Edmonton to Calgory he managed to get a connection to London  - and got back this morning.
Tony is playing a Private show in Burnley tonight and then Dave Williams is driving back through the night to drop him at Heathrow at 4.00 am
This could be the first time ever that Tony has been early for a flight!!!
Mind you he’s not there yet.
I will up date from San Jose tomorrow night.

Costa Rica Trek Day One .. or ¨Do you know the way to San Jose?¨

Meet time was 4.00 am .. Heathrow. Tony came straight from a gig in Burnley, Martin had a very long and much re-routed return from Canada and I stayed up to watch Match of the Day (the mighty Fulham stealing a point at fortress Blackburn) and packed into the night! Our party of around sixty (God bless you) invaded duty free and duly took off to Madrid. All seemed to be going so well until we landed to find that we had 20 minutes to make a flight at the other end of the airport (in a different time zone) with no one manning the security screening. After much huffing and puffing and ¨well this just isn´t good enoughs¨ from JG we legged it to the connecting flight and made it on by the skin of our teeth!! .. SO here we all are in San Jose! We have been fed and watered and briefed on what to expect over the next 12 days and I must say it all sounds very exciting .. volcanoes, waterfalls, strange insects, and that´s just in Tony´s underpants! I must add by the way that it was Martin´s birthday tonight and we had a good old sing up and a big cake with luminous icing. We kick off at 5.30 am in the morning so I´m off for a quick local beverage with Tone who I can hear holding court nearby at the bar! Hope all is loveliness over there and don´t forget Pete has some shows while we´re away so get yourselves out there and give him a cheer from us! Will call in again as soon as technology allows .. much love .. Rick x

Report from John Glover...The Trek is in full swing and Richard and Tony prove their enthusiasm!

John reports that their first day went well, they trekked for about 4 hours from the Pacific to the edge of the Rainforest, (easing them into it gently!) where they camped at their base last night.  It appears that Richard and Tony managed to miss the entrance to the base camp and trekked a further 3 ½ miles on before they realised!!  The team had to send a truck to go and find them and take them back to base!!   Apparently it’s extremely hot there, no-one got very much sleep last night, as there were cockerels and dogs barking on the camp for a lot of the night.  They were up at 4am this morning and they do an 8 hour trek today right into the Rainforest.

John will try and report again each day although he suspected that when they are deep into the forest, there may be no signal at all….so it may be a few days…...we will wait to hear.

Another report from the Trek by John Glover, The Trekkers have had a busy few days with some tough ground to cover..here's John's daily reports on their progress

Tuesday March 11th:

Very long trek – about 18kms – which began at 6am and finished at 4pm - mostly up hill through the very deep Rainforest, which is why there was no signal on the phone.  They have seen all kinds of wildlife – parrots, exotic birds, lizards, snakes and tree frogs - being some of them.  They also saw the worlds’ smallest frog – it was probably about 1/8th of an inch and there are many photographs of it apparently!   John also had a frog fall out of his trousers as he was walking – it must have jumped from his boots up his trouser leg!!

Wednesday March 12th:

A shorter trek, again through the Rainforest – in the evening they stayed at a farm in the mountains.

Thursday March 13th:

This was the longest and hardest day.  They began their trek at 6am and John was the last one in at 5:30pm.  It was all up hill and through thick Rainforest.  To make matters worse, it absolutely poured with rain from 11:30am onwards. so not only was it hard work, they got drenched as well!  Tony and Richard had to help 3 people who couldn’t make it to the end (nice one boys!) and therefore they and a few Trekkers were taken the last part of the journey by truck.  That night they stayed on an Avocado Plantation.

Friday March 14th:

Another long trek, where they climbed up through a Cloud Forest and then down the other side into a valley into Santa Maria, where there is a huge coffee plantation and this was their base last night.  (This coffee is apparently the best in the world so the Trekkers fully intend to make the most of the visit and sample it!)  Last night Tony managed to find a Karaoke bar (of course!) and ended up singing and drinking until 3am – hence the need for coffee this morning!  Martin and Julie Fry stayed in a B&B for the night-instead of the tents-and they could even hear Tony at 1:30am across town - singing ‘True’ !!!

Saturday March 15th:

When John rang this morning, it was 7am their time and everyone was just having breakfast –and are all fit and well, except that the queues for the blister clinic are apparently getting longer each day!!!  Today they are walking up to the Pan Pacific Highway and then they get picked up taken up to the volcano…..more on these adventures when the next call comes through!
